???? China Science and technology network according to the United States physicists organization network January 29th reported, through remote sensing and measured data combined with Boston University, the United States Woods Holzer research center and University of Maryland scientists draw the first piece covering Africa, Asia and the Americas all tropical vegetation map, spatial resolution is 500m × 500m.Related papers published in the journal "nature" on climate change.
???? satellite radar observation and field measurement combination makes the study of unique and significant, rendering the tropical carbon density maps also have hitherto unknown consistency and accuracy. The paper points out, tropical vegetation carbon uptake by previous studies indicated that more than 21%.On the carbon storage and reliable estimates of the understanding of land cover, use influenced by atmospheric carbon emissions is key.
???? the researchers say, this thesis is based on two reasons is very important, it provides information about the global tropical forest aboveground biomass density high resolution maps, two is calculated by tropical region land use change generated by the new carbon emissions estimates.
???? earlier estimates typically use the average biomass density, which may lead to emission estimation deviation.Scientists are now the biomass density and the amount of deforestation, the disappearing forests can also "assigned to" the corresponding carbon density. This new approach can better track from vegetation degeneration, growth caused by the biomass density change.
???? in most developing countries, deforestation is believed to be the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions.Annual emission of carbon into the atmosphere can amount to 11 tons.Based on the study of new data obtained, the researchers believe that the current model may overestimate the carbon net flux, because of a loss of 11% to 12% tropical vegetation. To achieve "the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change" (UNFCCC) requirements of the country, these new data is particularly important.
???? Carnegie Research Institute Stanford University ecologist Greg Eissner said, this will help countries and various groups to identify more precisely the carbon emission estimate. This study represents for the global tropical species status drawing a big step forward, it can help countries develop action to improve forest management, and through reduction due to deforestation and carbon emissions produced in the fight against climate change. In addition, scientists estimate that American tropical forest of about 1180 tons of carbon storage, than the previous study showed to be a fifth. The carbon accumulation and loss of the global measurement can also better quantification of all required credits.(Zhang Weiwei)??
